Mirror's Edge
Mirror's Edge is a graphically beautiful first person game all about freerunning. Set in the future, you play as a girl called Faith. She is a runner, her job is to transfer information around the city in a time when people and information are closely monitored.
As a runner she is skilled in using her surroundings in extremely resourceful ways to move from one point to another as quickly as possible. Through out the game you control Faith as she vaults, leaps, climbs, slides and rolls across spectacular city scenery. Rating Graphics: 10/10
All the scenes are beautiful and immersive. The world is detailed and each map is large if you take the time to explore. Everything has a serene simplisty which makes the game enjoyable and calming to play (when your not being shot at). The idea of being able to see yourself fully, but still be in a first person game gives the whole experience and different and fascinating feel.
Gameplay: 8/10
The game play was equally challenging and fluid. It demands thought and timing, allowing the player to become focused on a puzzle or challenge. The game play makes the game and with the added bonus of time trials on the side that test your free running skill, you'll be feeling like a pro over and over again.
Story: 6/10 The story lacked at places but was made up for by the fact that it played out like a book. Despite having a very simple ending you finish the game feeling proud and satisfied with not too much hunger to know unfilled gaps. The combat is not hugely orriginal but the combat system is, and allows you to be quite selective about how you dispose of/ avoid opponents. The parkour/free running aspect is quite cleaver and although it has been tried in other games before, Mirror's Edge does it very well. With the added bonus of the first person aspects. Good game, short but immersive and exciting right through. Well worth the money.
